BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. Turkmenistan and World Trade Organization (WTO) have discussed the process of joining the organization, Trend reports.
According to the official source of Turkmenistan, these issues were discussed on May 26, 2023 between the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Atageldi Haljanov and the Director of the Accessions Division of the WTO, Maika Oshikawa.
During the meeting, it became known that the WTO General Council has established a working group that will oversee negotiations between the members of the organization and Turkmenistan on the conditions of its accession to the organization.
The parties also discussed in general the preparation of a memorandum on the foreign trade regime of Turkmenistan.
At the same time, it was noted that representatives of the WTO will pay a working visit to Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, on May 29 through 31 this year.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan received observer status in the WTO on July 22, 2020.
