ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, November 20. Turkmenistan has put forward an initiative to create new trade and economic zones on the border with Iran during the 17th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation, Trend reports.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the proposal was aimed at further development of trade relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, it was stated that Turkmenistan and Iran are currently implementing mutually beneficial relations in a wide range of areas, including political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian aspects.
Furthermore, at the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, the parties noted that mutual efforts will help to give a qualitatively new content to the Turkmen-Iranian trade and economic cooperation, significantly increasing mutual trade turnover, diversifying its structure and scale.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan intends to create new border trade zones with neighboring countries and involve specialists of the Organization for Economic Cooperation (ECO) in this matter.
