ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, March 18. The Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the framework of the regional project 'Trade Facilitation in Central Asia' for 2024-2026, Trend reports.
According to the official source, the signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan, Begench Gochmollayev, as well as the Country Director of GIZ in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, Joachim Fritz, and the German Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Michael Uwe Bierhoff.
During the meeting, it became known that the regional project is being implemented by GIZ on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany in partnership with national ministries, customs agencies, border services, and representatives of the private sector of Central Asian countries.
The aim of the project is to develop regional approaches, especially in the field of digitalization, to facilitate cross-border trade.
Gochmollayev confirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to strengthening regional trade cooperation, adding that with the accession of the Turkmen side, the project now covers all five countries of the region, which meets the growing interest in developing ties between the countries of Central Asia and Europe.
Meanwhile, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) is a German development agency headquartered in Bonn and Eschborn (Germany), providing services in the fields of international cooperation and international educational work.
