ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, May 30. The delegation of Turkmenistan is studying Georgia's experience in joining the World Trade Organization (WTO), Trend reports.

According to the official source, this topic was studied during the study visit of the Turkmen delegation to Tbilisi, dedicated to the study of best practices in WTO accession negotiations and the promotion of national trade policy.

The visit is scheduled from May 27 through May 31, 2024. The Ashgabat Center of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) provided assistance in organizing it.

The delegation of Turkmenistan included representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Justice, the Central Bank, the State Customs Service, and other departments.

During the visit, the Turkmen side held meetings with colleagues from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Tax and Customs Policy Department.

At the meetings, the parties discussed bilateral relations in the fields of economics and trade, the process of WTO membership, and functions and obligations related to joining this organization.

Special attention was paid to the modernization and simplification of customs procedures, as well as fiscal reforms within the framework of WTO membership.

Meanwhile, the World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international organization whose purpose is to regulate international trade by establishing common rules and standards, as well as facilitate trade negotiations and dispute resolution between participating countries, which allows for predictable and fair conditions for global trade.

Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO can lead to a significant expansion of export opportunities through access to the global market and an improvement of the investment climate through bringing national legislation in line with international standards, which will contribute to economic diversification and reduce dependence on natural resources.
