Food market turnover significantly down in Uzbekistan

The strongest decrease in trade turnover in farm food markets was recorded in the Tashkent region (Uzbekistan), Trend reports with reference to the data published State committee of Uzbekistan on Statistics.

The total retail turnover of farm food markets in Uzbekistan decreased by 26.1 percent in the first seven months of 2020 compared to the same indicator last year and amounted to 3.29 trillion soums ($320 million).

The share of farm food markets in the overall structure of the country's retail trade turnover decreased from 5.3 percent in January-July last year to 3.2 percent - in January-July this year, including in unorganized trade - increased from 49.6 to 54.6 percent.

The strongest decrease in trade turnover in farm food markets was recorded in the Tashkent region - by 39.7 percent to 167.5 billion soums ($16.3 million), Karakalpakstan - by 35.6 percent to 109.6 billion soums ($10.7 million) and Samarkand region - by 33.4 percent to 211, 2 billion soums ($26.6 million).

Fresh agricultural products, grains (mung bean, beans, peas, rice, etc.), bread and bakery products, poultry meat and dairy products were in the greatest demand at farmer markets during the reporting period.

In total, the total volume of retail trade turnover in Uzbekistan decreased from January through July 2020, compared to the same period last year by 2.9 percent to 103.5 trillion soums ($10.1 billion), including small businesses - by 7.3 percent to 84.7 trillion soums ($8.25 billion), while the total volume of retail trade turnover of large businesses increased by 23.6 percent to 18.8 trillion soums ($1.83 billion).
