BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 30

By Natavan Rzayeva - Trend:

The Uzbek government intends to use the Iranian port of Chabahar for gaining access to sea trade routes, which will increase imports and exports of the country, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

Iran, India and Uzbekistan intend to hold a second meeting of the trilateral working group to discuss the joint use of the port of Chabahar on the Iranian coast of Makran for trade and transit.

The first online meeting of the trilateral working group took place in December 2020, and now the parties are setting the date for the second meeting.

Uzbekistan intends to promote a joint plan with India and Iran to develop communications through this harbor as part of country's efforts to improve and diversify access to sea routes.

Currently, Chabahar has the infrastructure and strategic equipment for unloading and loading up to 15 million tons of goods per year. This port, due to its strategic position, can play a key role in the transportation of goods from the countries of Central Asia.
