TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 21. The capacity of Uzbekistan’s Gazli Gas Storage is expected to double by 2025, the Chief Engineer of the Uzbek-Russian joint venture Gazli Gas Storage LLC, Muhammad Saidazimov, said, Trend reports.

Gazli Gas Storage was established in October 2018 for the development and reconstruction of the Gazli underground gas storage facility in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara region. The Russian company "Forus" and the Uzbek JSC "Uztransgaz" participate in it. The project plan assumes an increase in the volume of gas storage from three to 10 billion cubic meters and is divided into two stages. The first is the exploration of the field; the second is the completion and expansion of the storage. The total cost of the project is estimated at $850 million.

"At the first stage, which will be implemented from 2020 through 2025, the storage capacity will be increased from three billion to six billion cubic meters of natural gas," said Saidazimov in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.

According to him, at the second stage, it is planned to increase the storage capacity to 10 billion cubic meters of gas. To date, the joint venture has completed the construction of a booster compressor station and drilled more than 70 new wells at the Gazli field, the total number of which is more than 350. The total cost of the first stage of the project is $558 million, of which $270 million are foreign direct investments.
