Earthquake hits Iranian city

Two 4.2 and 3.9 magnitude earthquakes occurred near the Iranian city of Firuzkuh on Jan.20.

Thirty aftershocks with a 2.3 magnitude were recorded later and the population has started leaving the city, İLNA News Agency reported.

According to information, the first earthquake was recorded by the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University at 00:56 local time, and the second six minutes later.

Ten people were injured, windows were shattered and walls of houses were cracked. Schools and other institutions of the city are closed.

Many spent last night on the streets but some were housed in indoor sports complexes.

According to the Seismological Center, the last earthquake had a 3.1 magnitude and occurred at 05:47 today.

Firuzkuh is located northeast of Tehran.
