Iran has appointed Seyed Mohammad Sajjadi as the new ambassador, who will represent the country at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Press TV reported.
Sajjadi, who has been serving as the head of International Political Affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry for several years, presented his credentials to Director-General of the United Nations Office Sergei Ordzhonikidze on Saturday.
The new ambassador, who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the Iranian College of International Relations, will replace Kazem Jalali at the post.
Jalaili has acted on behalf of Tehran at the council for the past few weeks after Iran won the support of the Asia-Pacific parliamentary committees on its bid for appointment as one of the countries representing the region.
On Tuesday, Iranian Parliament Deputy Speaker Seyyed Mohammad-Hassan Aboutorabifard attributed Iran's current place on the council to the parliament's efforts on the international scene.
