An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale jolted the Iran's Kish Island, Southern Iran for one minute, on Jan. 9, Mehr News Agency reported.

The Iran Seismological Center registered the quake at 12:01 in local time.

The epicenter of the quake was located in an area 53.96 degrees longitude and 26.7 degrees latitude.

In August 2012, two quakes in Northwestern Iran also claimed the lives of 306 people and injured more than 4,500 others.

There is no report on possible casualties or damage.
