In the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), Iran's output of oilseeds is expected to exceed 440,000 tons, an official with Iran's Agricultural Jihad Ministry, Alireza Muhajir said, Trend reports via the website of the ministry.

Earlier, there was hope to reach the record output of 500,000 tons, but due to recent floods in the country, this amount doesn't seem real anymore, Muhajir said.

Compared to the previous year, this year, the output of oilseeds will increase by 100,000 tons, he said.

This year, 210,000 hectares were sown with rapeseed, but some of the fields in Golestan, Khuzestan, Mazandaran and Lorestan provinces suffered heavy floods, he said.

About 15,000 hectares of the fields were completely destroyed by the flood, and it the fertility of some 40,000-50,000 hectares decreased, the official said, adding that the precipitation in other provinces of the country resulted in increase in the output.

in 2015, Iran's output of oilseeds was 46,000 tons, but in the last year, this number increased by seven times and reached 340,000 tons, he added.

So far, 240,000 tons of rapeseed have been purchased from farmers, Muhajir noted.
