By Elnur Bagishov – Trend:
Iran is currently one of the world's exporters of radioactive drugs, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said, Trend reports citing the IRNA.
Salehi said that Iran exports several types of radioactive drugs to India, Lebanon, Iraq and some European countries.
The official added that at the same time, it will become one of the largest exporters of radioactive drugs in the near future.
"Every year, new drugs are added to Iran's list of radioactive drugs produced locally. For example, Iran has already started production of ‘lutesium 177’ drug. The cost of this drug's foreign-produced counterpart is 15,000 euro," he noted.
According to Salehi, Iran is implementing a project for the production of radioactive drugs called Tetra. About 60 million euro worth of equipment was purchased for this project. This project has no analogues in the Middle East.
The chairman stressed that moreover, an ion-drug center is being built in Iran's Alborz Province. Iran is the first country in West Asia to have an ion-drug center. A total of 200 million euro will be spent to supply the center with equipment.
"Some of the achievements of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran are related to the health sector. So, a centrifuge has been provided for the blood bank. At the same time, a centrifuge is needed to make the coronavirus vaccine, and the AEOI has provided the centrifuge for Barakat Company," he said.
