Azerbaijan's GDP increased by 0.7 percent (922.4 million manat) in January-May 2012, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee reported. The current price of GDP indicator reached 20.9 billion manat.
The volume of GDP per capita amounted to 2.281.5 manat ($2.901.9).
The non-oil sector increased by 10.5 percent and amounted to 44.4 percent of GDP. Production and processing of oil and gas industry amounted to 55.6 percent of GDP, with an annual decline of production in this sector by 6.5 percent.
In January-May added value in the amount of 598.9 million manat was observed in agriculture, fisheries and forestry, which is 2.9 percent of GDP, in the construction sector - 1.58 billion manat (7.59 percent), trade and repair of vehicles - 1.53 million manat (7.3 percent), transport and warehousing - 1.,06 million manat (5 percent), telecommunications and information - 284.3 million manat (1.7 percent ), the field of tourist accommodation and catering - 281.4 million manat (1.4 percent), social support and other services - 2.18 billion manat (10.5 percent).
The total volume of production in all sectors of the economy fell by 1.7 percent over the same period in 2011 and amounted to 14.16 billion manat, where the bulk - 57.5 percent of GDP (11.98 billion manat) accounted for Industry. In services, the production of value added, compared to the same period in 2011 increased by 5.8 per cent, amounting to 5.4 billion manat.
Net taxes on products and imports increased by 7.7 percent and amounted to 1.285.3 billion manat or 6.2 percent of GDP.

In January-May 2012 industrial production output [produced goods and rendered services of industrial nature] in Azerbaijan amounted to 15 billion manat, which is 2.9 percent less than in the same period of 2011.
Share of private sector compared to the same period of last year dropped by 4.3 percent, amounting to 82 percent of total industrial production. At the same time, 92.6 per cent falls to the production of industrial goods, 7.4 percent - industrial services. Production in non-oil industrial sector grew by 11.2 percent.
During the reporting period, the volume of production in the mining industry decreased by 5.4 percent to 11.64 billion manat with share of 77.6 per cent in the total industrial production. Oil production hit 18.5 million tons and natural gas production - 7.4 billion cubic meters.
The amount of production in processing industry totaled 2.56 billion manat, increasing by 14.6 percent in January-May. In January-May, there was a decline in the production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (79.5 percent) and in the chemical industry (7.4 percent). A 3.3-time increase was observed in the manufacturing of electrical equipment, in the metallurgical industry - a 10.7-percent increase, computer and other electronic equipment - a 17.5-percent increase.
Also a 2.1-percent increase was recorded in food production. Production of sausage products in the country grew by 4 percent, amounting to 822.3 tons, vegetable oil - 26.6 percent (24,200 tons), butter - 1.7 percent (9,100 tons), margarine - 66.1 percent (11,400 tons)
Azerbaijan reduced gold production by 32 percent while decreasing total production of precious metals by 40 percent. In January-May the country produced 857.4 kg of precious metals (262 kg in January, 135.8 kg in February, 149.7 kg in March, 143.9 kg in April and 166 kg in May), which is 40.8 percent less than production in January-May 2011.
The storage reserves of precious metals hit 79 kg (-21.8 kg in May). In January-May the production hit 515.8 kg of gold and 341.6 kg of silver. The gold stocks hit 46.7 kg (+21.7 in December) and 32.3 kg of silver (-2.6 kg).
In January-May 2012, in Azerbaijan volume of agricultural production at current prices amounted to 1.009.7 billion manat, or 7.1 percent more compared to the same period in 2011. The growth of crop production increased by 23.1 percent, livestock production - 5.4 percent, and fish at 67,600 manat was net.
The total volume of the country's trade turnover in January-May 2012 with 133 countries amounted to $14.41 billion, which exceeds the figure for the same period of last year by 2.54 per cent. During January-May 2012, export operations amounted to $10.735 billion or 1.43 per cent more than the same period of 2011. In January-May 2012, imports amounted to $3.375 billion, or 5.92 per cent more than the same period in 2011. In January-May Azerbaijan exported 1414 types of commodities and imported 5403 into the country. In January-May 2012 exports exceeded imports, which led to the formation in the foreign trade of surplus at $7.06 billion.
Some 4.473.4 billion from all financial sources manat was invested in the development of economic and social areas in Azerbaijan in January-May, which is 28.3 per cent more than the same period of last year. In particular, 1.198.5 billion manat, which is 45 percent (the best result this year so far) more than investments in fixed capital in May 2011, have been invested in Azerbaijan's economy in May 2012.
In January-May 2012, consumer goods sold to population increased by 9.4 percent compared to January-May 2011 and amounted to 6.806.1 billion manat. Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs ensured 46.0 percent of trade turnover, fairs and markets - 41.5 percent.
In May, consumer prices in Azerbaijan dropped by 0.9 percent compared to the previous month, during January-May 2012 increased by 2.5 percent compared to January-May 2011.
According to State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, in January-May 2012 nominal income of the population of Azerbaijan totaled 12.358.7 billion manat, which is 14.6 percent more compared to the same period in 2011. During this same period, nominal income per capita income grew by 13.1 percent to 1,352.2 manat. The average monthly income per capita was 270.4 manat. The growth rate of per capita income exceeded the growth in consumer prices by 10.6 percent.
Actual proceeds to the revenue of Azerbaijan's state budget amounted to 6.715.3 billion manat in January-May 2012 (32.2 percent of GDP), increasing by 39.2 percent compared to the same period in 2011. State budget expenditures increased by 53.4 percent and amounted to 5.648.5 billion manat (27.1 percent of GDP). Budget surplus in January-May 2012 stood at 1.066.8 billion manat, which accounted for five percent of GDP.
Exchange rate of manat remained stable. In January-May 2012 average exchange rate of manat compared to the U.S. dollar was 0.79 manat per dollar, compared to the euro - 1.01 manat per euro, to the Russian ruble - 2.6 manat for 100 rubles.
