Agriculture in Azerbaijan (January-November 2017)

The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 6,200.6 million manat in Azerbaijan in January-November 2017, which is by 4.2 percent more than in January-November 2016.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report, the crop production reached 2,942.0 million manat, while livestock production - 3,258.6 million manat in the reporting period.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report, the crop production increased by 5.9 percent, while livestock production - 2.8 percent in the reporting period.

As of December 1, 2017, 2.69 million tons of grain were harvested from a 940,500-hectare-area (99.97 percent of the sown area), which is 5.25 percent less than in the same period of 2016.

An average of 28.6 centners of grain was harvested from each hectare. Thus, 226,300 tons of corn were harvested from a 35,600-hectare-area.

According to the report, 889,400 tons of potatoes were harvested (an increase of 9,200 tons), 1.37 million tons of vegetables (an increase of 135,100), 437,500 tons of melons and gourds during the reporting period.

In January-November 2017, 923,700 tons of fruits and berries, 145,800 tons of grapes, 772.2 tons of tea and 3,600 tons of tobacco were harvested. The production of fruits and grape increased by 5,400 tons and 8,500 tons in January-November 2017 compared to the same period of 2016.

In January-November 2017, 30,000 tons of sunflower were harvested compared to 17,100 tons in the same period of 2016 and 408,200 tons of sugar beet compared to 283,500 tons in the same period of 2016.

As of Nov. 7, 2017, 168,570 tons of cotton were harvested in Azerbaijan, which is 3.3 times more than in the same period of 2016. Thus, 50,420 tons of cotton were harvested in the same period of 2016.

During the period, the biggest volume of cotton was harvested in Azerbaijan's Saatli District. So, 23,170 tons of cotton were harvested from a 17,220-hectare-area.

In total, cotton has been sown on an area of 136,410 hectares this year, which is 2.7 times more than in 2016.
