Investments in Azerbaijan's economy (January-February 2018)

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, 1,824.7 million manat was invested from all financial sources in the development of the economic and social areas of Azerbaijan in January-February 2018, which is by 18.2 percent less than in January-February 2017.

In February 2018, 902.1 million manat was invested in the Azerbaijani economy, which is 20.84 percent less than investments made in fixed assets in February 2017.

According to the report, 79.3 percent of investments in fixed assets were made in the construction of production facilities, 14.8 percent - non-production facilities, 5.9 percent - housing construction.

The main sources of investments in January-February 2018 are as follows:

  • funds of enterprises and organizations - 1,243.3 million manat (27.8 percent less compared to January-February 2017;
  • budgetary funds - 274.4 million manat (53.5 percent more);
  • off-budgetary funds - 8.1 million manat (42.9 percent less);
  • bank loans - 198.8 million manat (76.3 percent less);
  • funds of population - 99.0 million manat (63.9 percent more)

The investments made in the economy increased in all sources of financing, except the funds of enterprises, organizations and budgetary funds in January-February 2018.

According to the State Statistics Committee's report, the private businesses and organizations invested 66.7 percent of total investments in the fixed capital, but the state businesses and organizations - 33.3 percent despite an increase in budget financing.

Some 74.9 percent of the total investments were made in construction and installation work for the reporting period.

Some 816.2 million manat (around 45 percent) were invested in the Azerbaijani non-oil sector in January-February 2018.

Some 1,008.5 million manat (54.85 percent) were invested in the Azerbaijani oil sector in January-February 2018.

The total investments worth 1,141.3 million manat were made in the Azerbaijani industrial sector in January-February 2018 or by 33.3 percent less compared to January-February 2017.

Some 983.5 million manat of those funds were made in the Azerbaijani extractive sector in January-February 2018 or by 38.1 percent less compared to January-February 2017.

The investments worth 22.4 million manat were made in production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and heat in January-February 2018, which is by 33.0 percent less than in January-February 2017.

Some 50.8 percent of the total investments accounted for the domestic investments.

In January-February 2018, the amount of foreign investments made in the Azerbaijani fixed capital amounted to 897.4 million manat.

Investments were made by 36 percent less in January-February 2018 than in the same period of 2017.

The investments worth 773.1 million manat (86.1 percent) made in Azerbaijan's economy by foreign countries and international organisations accounted for investors from the UK, Russia, Malaysia, Turkey, Switzerland, Japan, US, Iran, the Czech Republic in January-February 2018.

Foreign investments reached 49.25 percent of the total amount of investments made in Azerbaijan's fixed capital in January-February 2018, which is 18 percentage points less than in January-February 2017.
