Agriculture in Azerbaijan (January-February 2018)

Agricultural enterprises, private entrepreneurs and households have been engaged in spring field work in Azerbaijan since January.

For this purpose, agrotechnical measures are carried out on the fields and the necessary agricultural machinery is used.

The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 558.1 million manats in Azerbaijan in January-February 2018, which is by 3.4 percent more than in January-February 2017.

The crop production increased by 43.8 percent (15.6 million manats), while livestock production - 2.6 percent (542.5 million manats) in the reporting period.

In January-February 2018, the spring crops were planted in most regions of Azerbaijan. As of March 1, 2018, 47,500 hectares of land were sown with spring crops. In particular, 4,100 hectares of land accounted for legumes, 10,100 hectares for potatoes, 9,600 hectares for vegetables, 23,600 hectares for permanent plants and 1,000 hectares for other crops.

So, 75,600 tons of meat in live weight, 296,500 tons of milk, 278.8 million pieces of eggs were produced in the country in January-February 2018.

Meat production increased by 3.4 percent, milk production by 1.1 percent, egg production - by 1.1 percent in January-February 2018 compared to January-February 2017.

The timely zootechnic and veterinary measures, as well as the work aimed at improving the cattle breeds had a positive impact on the dynamic development of livestock.
