The Iranian authorities have used certain statements and intentions of the Director General of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), Mohammad ElBaradei, for their own purposes, said Professor at the University of Glasgow Reza Tagizadeh.
"The Iranian authorities have used such issues as the desire to obtain the consent of Iran and to establish friendly relations with that country in order to conceal their own affairs," Tagizadeh told Trend by telephone.
He said that referring to political issues rather than technical details in his previous statements, ElBaradei was trying to obtain the consent of Iran. The expert believes that enlisting the confidence of Muslim Iran, ElBaradei, expatriate from a Muslim country, hoped to get more information.
"For this reason, in his statements ElBaradei sometimes gave explanations supporting Iran," said the Iranian expert, who works in London.
The latest IAEA report highlighted the increased cooperation of Iran, as well as a slight slowdown in its nuclear activities. Formerly ElBaradei said that the nuclear threat from Iran is exaggerated. He opposed against tightening sanctions against Iran, insisted by a number of European countries.
However, at the last meeting, Mohammad ElBaradei described the relationship between Iranian authorities and the IAEA as "deadlock" and called on Tehran to return to dialogue with the UN Security Council.
Tagizadeh believes that ElBaradei was forced to react to the accusations of several IAEA member countries and Western states to conceal them some questions about Iran's nuclear program and declared that Iran's nuclear program got into deadlock.
BBC reported that last Tuesday France confirmed the formerly made accusations against the IAEA that this part of UN hides important facts about Iran's nuclear program. The same view was expressed by Israel, stating that the IAEA, for sure, knows more about the "secrecy and lies" of Iran than considering it necessary to inform the public.
Despite the opinion that the recent statements by the head of the IAEA contradict each other, IAEA Press and Public Information Officer Greg Webb thinks that there are no inconsistencies in the recent statements of the IAEA director general no inconsistencies.
"The point is that ElBaradei asked repeatedly for Iran to offer more cooperation, more transparency that has been re-busted by Iran. At the same time he asked other states not to exaggerate threat posed by Iran. I don't think that it is a kind of contradiction," Webb told Trend by telephone.
"ElBaradei has repeatedly called for Iran to offer more help and cooperation, and to allow the investigation of Iran's past nuclear activities. He has called also both Iran and Western nations to resume a constructive dialog," he said.
The opinion that these two statements do not contradict each other was also supported by the former Iranian MP and expert on nuclear issues Ahmed Shirzad.
According to him, in his statements, ElBaradei outlined two separate problems in the same issue on Iran's nuclear program: on the one hand, Western countries exaggerated the threat of nuclear program of that country in order to introduce sanctions against Iran, on the other hand, in the resolutions adopted by UN Security Councils there are such items that Iran has not fulfilled.
"Saying deadlock, ElBaradei took into account exactly this, Shirzad told Trend by telephone. - In his statement, ElBaradei wanted to note that despite that Iran re-establishes cooperation with IAEA, Iran has not implemented main demands (uranium enrichment, suspending construction of heavy water reactor in Arak and approving an additional protocol at the parliament).
Iranian expert believes that based exactly on this, ElBaradei used the word "deadlock".
