Georgia and Turkey to Modernize Sapri Check-Point to Increase Turnover of Goods

Georgia, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N. Kirtskhalia/ Georgia and Turkey will fully modernize the Sapri check-point in the Georgia-Turkey border. The agreement in this regard was signed in Sapri on 23 March.

Some $35mln will be allocated to enlarge check-points in this border section which will contribute to the trade turnover between the two countries.

According to Nika Gilauri, the finance minister of Georgia, the custom procedures will be eased as well. "The trade turnover between our countries will increase up to 3mln tons," the minister said.

According to minister, some 126,000 lorries from both sides crossed this section of the border during the last month. "Now Turkey will begin to modernize its check-point as we have already completed works on our part," he said.

Besides officials, some 200 Turkish and Georgian businessmen took part in the signing ceremony as well.
