BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 14
Trend:
Azerbaijan is among main sources of Georgia’s electricity imports, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili said, Trend reports via Georgian media.
According to the minister, Azerbaijani electricity exports to Georgia amount to about 601.1 million kWh. Meanwhile, Russia ranks first with 1.2 billion kWh.
Davitashvili noted that Georgia has great potential for renewable energy development, however, the country is still dependent on electricity imports. Although, Georgia’s electricity imports account for only 10-14 percent of the total Georgia’s electricity consumption.
Georgia will be less dependent on electricity imports in the upcoming month due to the increase in electricity production through hydropower plants, which usually starts in May-June, the minister added.
