BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 8. The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia announced the second auction for the construction of renewable energy production facilities with a total capacity of 800 MW, which is almost three times the amount of the first auction, Trend reports.
The auction concerns the following categories: hydroelectric power plants (regulatory) - 300 MW; hydroelectric power plants (on stream) -100 MW; wind power plants - 125 MW; solar power plants -125 MW; wind power plants (with energy storage) - 70 MW; solar power plants (with energy storage devices) - 70 MW; other facilities powered by renewable energy sources are 10 MW.
Answering questions from local reporters, First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Romeo Mikautadze said the optimal use of local renewable energy sources is a priority of the energy policy of the government.
"The first auction, which was announced in February this year, aroused great interest from the private sector, and at the moment 27 companies have been identified that will invest $400 million in energy projects. At the second auction, the total installed capacity is almost three times that of the first one. We hope that the interest of the private sector in the second auction will be the same," he said.
Furthermore, Mikautadze added that the announcement of the second auction is a new opportunity for investors to invest their capital in Georgia's energy projects and thereby contribute to the development of both the industry and the country's economy.
Meanwhile, this auction is valid for 45 calendar days after its announcement, during which interested parties will be able to submit the relevant documents.
