5 killed in road accident in northeast India

At least five people were killed and seven others injured on Sunday after a vehicle carrying them lost control in the northeastern state of Assam, police said, Trend reports citing Xinhua.

The accident took place at Tokobari-Gohpur in Biswanath district, about 282 km northeast of Dispur, the capital city of Assam.

The victims were part of a troupe that had traveled for performance at a function during the night in view of the Bihu festival in the state.

The injured were sent to hospitals. Police said that the driver lost control over the vehicle and it overturned on the road.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.

Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
