Baku. Azerbaijan. August 2. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pope Francis held a telephone conversation, Trend reports with reference to the communications department of the Turkish presidential administration.
Erdogan drew attention to the immoral scenes that took place at the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris.
President Erdogan stressed that attacks on religious and moral values and trampling on human dignity are unacceptable under the name of freedom of expression and tolerance.
The Turkish leader noted that the immoral scenes in Paris offended the feelings of Muslims, as well as the Christian world. "It is important to raise our voices against such actions together and take a united position," he said.
Erdogan recalled that the goal of the Olympic Games is not an attack on religious values and the promotion of heretical ideas, but to unite people.
He called the attacks on religious values as part of the Olympics held in France "an alarming signal about the moral crisis in which the world finds itself."
The Pope expressed gratitude to the Turkish president for his efforts to restore peace and his sensitivity to the degradation of religious values.
