German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday announced that the United Nations had given the go-ahead for Germany to release 1 billion euros in frozen Libyan assets, dpa reported.
Merkel made the announcement at an international conference in Paris, where world leaders discussed support for Libya's post-Gaddafi reconstruction and democratic transition.
Germany is the fifth country, after the United States, Britain, France and the Netherlands, to announce the release of a tranche of the assets that were frozen under a UN sanctions resolution in March.
