Israeli strike on northern Gaza kills three Palestinians

( dpa ) - Three Palestinians were killed on Saturday in an Israeli strike on northern Gaza Strip as militants launched makeshift rockets at Israel, medics and witnesses said.

Witnesses in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza said that an Israeli surface-to-surface missile had hit the area, adding, the militants fled the scene, but the Israeli rocket's shrapnel had hit and killed three civilian bystanders.

Mo'aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency and ambulance services said that three were killed in Beit Hanoun, adding that their bodies had been taken to a hospital there.

The Israeli strike camed shortly after two homemade rockets were fired from the area at southern Israel, witness said.

Earlier Saturday, the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) and the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) claimed responsibility for launching two rockets from northern Gaza at the Israeli town of Sderout.
