Taiwan parliamentarian laughs off her dentures

( dpa ) - A Taiwan opposition parliamentarian Friday found her colleague's new hair style so funny that her dentures shook loose while laughing in front of TV cameras.

Chu Feng-chih of the Nationalist Party, or Kuomintang (KMT), came forward to show "concern" toward her colleague, Hou Tsai-feng, about the latter's hairstyle as they registered for the opening of the new parliament session.

"Has your hair re-grown?" asked Chu, while laughing heartily. But she suddenly gagged and struggled to keep her teeth from falling out of her mouth.

The embarrassing episode was broadcast live on local television covering the opening of the new parliament, formed after the January 12 parliament election.

Hou, also of the KMT, had shaved her head on the eve of the election to show she was in a desperate condition - a campaign gimmick to solicit a sympathy vote. That gimmick apparently worked as she was elected.

"The lesson is we have to brush our teeth thoroughly," an embarrassed Chu said after re-inserting her teeth.
