( dpa ) - The Singapore government is making a humanitarian contribution of 500,000 US dollars to regions in China where devastating snow storms have caused extensive damage, injuries and loss of life, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

The aid is in response to an appeal by the Red Cross Society of China for assistance to help storm victims.

Efforts to combat the prolonged weather crisis are at a critical stage this week with the start of Chinese New Year festivities.
