( dpa ) - Austrian police arrested a suspect Sunday following four acid attacks on local politicians in the state of Upper Austria, a spokesman said.
The suspect is accused of sending at least four packages containing butyric acid to politicians in Innviertel from Passau in Germany.
The former mayor of Weissenkirchen and current member of the state parliament, Rudolf Prinz, suffered chemical burns to his hands when he opened one of the packages.
Austrian news agency APA reported that the suspect was a property developer from the region.
The police managed to secure a further package on Sunday.
In February, the mayor of the small town of Spitz in the state of Lower Austria was poisoned when he ate a chocolate that had been laced with the rat poison strychnine.
He has been in a coma in hospital since consuming the poison.
A winegrower from the region was arrested for the attack.
He is believed to have poisoned the mayor because he did not approve the building of a spa hotel. The winegrower denies carrying out the poisoning.
