(dpa) - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Wednesday that he would meet the Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader, when he visits London later this year.
Brown made the announcement in parliament, following days of political debate and pressure from the media that the British government should demonstrate its support for the exiled Tibetan leader.
Brown said he had spoken to Chinese premier Wen Jiabao Wednesday and made it "absolutely clear" that there had to be an end to the violence in Tibet.
