(dpa) - Police in the Iraqi town of Muqdadiyah have discovered a new mass grave containing 14 bodies close to another mass grave found last week, the US army disclosed Sunday.

The discovery near the town some 125 kilometres north-east of Baghdad came on Saturday.

The mass grave was only 100 metres away from a mass grave found on Thursday containing the corpses of 37 people, with the bodies showing signs of torture.

Muqdadiyah was the site of heavy fighting a few weeks ago between al Qaeda forces and US troops, Iraqi security forces and local Sunni self-defence groups.
