On the same day their star striker Ronaldo underwent surgery, Corinthians dropped yet another position in the Brazilian soccer championship on Wednesday, Xinhua reported.
Tying 1-1 with Santo Andre, Corinthians fell to sixth place with 24 points, while the away team remained in the 13th place with 18 points after 15 round of play.
Santo Andre scored first in the 64th minute when Marcelinho Carioca kicked off a stopped ball that eluded Corinthian's ace goalie Felipe and sailed into the upper left corner of the net.
Corinthians responded 10 minutes later as Chicao, taking advantage of his proximity to the goal, set up the Santo Andre goalkeeper Neneca and blew the ball by him to level it.
The Sao Paulo team will have to wait patiently as Ronaldo recovers from his broken hand.
After having 12 pins and two plates inserted into his left hand, the star striker is expected to miss the next eight games.
Ronaldo broke his ring finger and his middle finger after falling during their loss to Palmeiras on July 26.
