Authorities in the West African Spanish archipelago of the Canary Islands have evacuated around 4,000 people after wildfires swept through the area's forests, Press TV reported.
Tourist resort destinations of Fuencaliente and Mazo are reportedly engulfed by rampant forest fires that have overpowered firefighters so far due to high winds and temperatures.
Residents on the small island of La Palma are put on alert, where plumes of smoke have emanated from the blaze that has scorched the slopes of one of the world's greenest mountainous spots.
Spain has dispatched a military unit comprising of planes and helicopters accompanied by around 500 troops in order to help extinguish the raging flames.
There have also been reports of minor fires on other islands favorable with vacationers.
Officials in the volcanic archipelago have yet to disclose information on the causes of the fire and on the number of possible casualties thereof.
