Czech Republic not against Russia's inclusion in joint missile defense

The Czech Republic has never been against Russia's inclusion in a joint missile defense system, Czech Defense Ministry spokesman Milan Repka told the local media on Thursday in response to the news that Russia is to launch a radar base in three months, Xinhua reported.

Repka said if the missile defense system included Russia, it would be the most efficient.

Russia will launch the missile defense radar that it offered to the United States for joint use, in exchange for the U.S. stopping its plan to install part of a missile defense shield in the Czech Republic and Poland, the Russian Interfax news agency reported earlier in the day.

Russia strongly opposes the U.S. plan for a radar and silo for interceptor missiles in the Czech Republic and Poland. Moscow says the Russian-U.S. deal on strategic arms cuts would not be possible unless the plan is scrapped.

Since he took office in January, U.S. President Barack Obama has been trying hard to mend relations with Russia.
