Finance ministers of seven European countries are urging G-20 leaders to put together strict limits on bonuses to bank executives, AP reported.
The finance ministers of Sweden, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands on Friday called for a ban on bonuses guaranteed for more than a year.
In a joint opinion piece in Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter the ministers wrote that "risks related to award systems should be surveilled very strictly. The risks are way too high when the mistakes of a few can affect our entire population."
They urged ministers meeting at Friday's Group of 20 meeting in London to join in the work to draw up stricter rules, saying they would "obviously be more effective if they are adopted at an international level."
