An A/H1N1 flu epidemic has hit a school in Juupajoki, southern Finland since last weekend, bringing three students being diagnosed of contracting the virus and about 50 others suspected, reported Finnish media Thursday.
According to the report, many students in the school started to show influenza symptoms since last weekend and up to 50 students, which is equivalent to one third of the school's students were absent from class this Monday and Tuesday. However, the situation is easing while some students are returning to school. Still 30 students and 4 teachers are remaining sick on Thursday, Xinhua reported.
Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare said that the spread of A/H1N1 flu in Juupajoki is just in small-scale. The epidemic of A/H1N1 flu in large scale hasn't broken out in Finland yet. The agency also said on Thursday that Finland has so far confirmed 244 A/H1N1 flu cases, no fatal case has been spotted.
Finnish health authorities estimated that the A/H1N1 flu will spread nation-widely in Finland during this autumn and winter, the Finnish government is thus planning to carry out a large-scale vaccination campaign. As the first batch of vaccine will arrive in Finland at the beginning of October, health authorities of Finland will then inoculate health personnel and pregnant women first.
