Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez said Friday that his players are determined to prove wrong the latest World Cup prediction Germany's psychic octopus, dpa reported.

Paul the octopus predicted that Uruguay would lose to Germany in the match for third place at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

"Now we are doubly motivated," the coach told a news conference. "It's not just about beating Germany, we have to beat the octopus as well."

It was time prove that the sea creature could also be wrong, the 63-year-old coach said with a smile.

Tabarez, who named his team for match during the press conference, said he was not superstitious but the tip for Germany by the oracle octopus was "another motivation" for his players.

Paul has correctly forecast the outcome of all six of Germany's World Cup games so far, including their semi-final defeat by Spain.

Earlier Friday, the octopus predicted German would win the match for third place and picked Spain to beat the Netherlands in Sunday's final.

"No one knows what the outcome of the game against Germany will be, but perhaps this octopus does," the coach said.
