New Liverpool signing Raul Meireles was unveiled at Anfield on Sunday and has vowed to help the club win silverware, dpa reported.

Liverpool moved quickly to replace Javier Mascherano by signing the 27-year-old Portugal midfielder from Porto in a four-year deal believed to be worth more than 11 million pounds (17 million dollars).

Meireles played in all four of Portugal's matches in the World Cup this summer and said he was excited at the challenges presented by Liverpool and the Premier League.

"Liverpool are an historic club and I am happy for the move," Meireles said, adding that new manager Roy Hodgson had worked hard to secure his signing.

"I hope the fans will one day remember me for my success at Liverpool. It has been a long time coming but finally I have achieved my dream of playing in England."
