The flame for the London 2012 Summer Games will be lit in Ancient Olympia on Thursday, the site of the first Olympics 2,800 years ago, DPA reported.
The ceremony will be attended by International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge, London 2012 Olympics Organizing Committee President Lord Sebastian Coe as well as hundreds of other officials and dignitaries.
An actress dressed as a high priestesses will light the Olympic flame using a concave mirror to focus the sun's rays and light a torch at the official ceremony scheduled to take place at noon (0900 GMT)
A flame lit during a dress rehearsal on Wednesday will be used as backup in the event that clouds block the sun.
The flame will then be handed over to the first torchbearer, Greek world champion swimmer Spyros Gianniotis before making a 1,800-mile journey through the country using 490 torchbearers.
It will then be handed to London organizers on May 17 in Athens' Panathiaic Stadium, where the first modern games were held in 1896. The London Games will be held from July 27 until August 12.
