The United Nations decided Friday to end negotiations on what would have been an historic Arms Trade Treaty due to deep differences among governments, dpa reported.
Campaigners for a strong and effective treaty said the talks would probably resume probably in coming months. The recent round of discussion extended over three weeks without reaching an agreement.
A statement issued by 90 countries that wanted the talks to continue said, "We believe we were very close to reaching our goals. We are disappointed this process has not come to a successful conclusion today. We are disappointed, but we are not discouraged."
