The man who gunned down 20 children and six adults in Connecticut forcibly entered Sandy Hook Elementary School, a police officer told reporters Saturday, dpa reported.
"He forced his way into the school. He was not allowed to enter," said Lieutenant Paul Vance.
All the victims have been identified, Vance said, and the bodies were with the medical examiner for post-mortems, after which a list would be released.
"When we release that list, at the request of all of the family members, they have asked for you to please respect their privacy," he said.
He requested the media to leave the relatives of victims in "solitude" at "a difficult and trying time," saying a trooper had been assigned to guard each family.
The gunman was found dead at the scene, pIran Zahedan shootingolice said.
