Trend:

Russian investigators revealed new details on a plane accident at Moscow's Vnukovo airport, which killed the CEO of the French oil company Total Christophe de Margerie, as his jet collided with a snowplough on the runway early on Oct. 21.

Speaking to the news agency Interfax, the Russian Investigative Committee's Spokesman Vladimir Markin said the snowplough's driver was intoxicated at the time of collision.

The Head of the Investigative Committee's Moscow Department Ivan Sibul told Interfax that the collision could have taken place due to a pilot error, violation of traffic rules at the airport, or erroneous actions of dispatchers.

It is also possible that adverse weather condition was the cause of the incident.

It should be noted that aside from the Total chief executive, the incident also killed the plane's pilots and a flight attendant.

The Total CEO Christophe de Margerie earlier attended a foreign investment advisory council meeting, chaired by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Christophe de Margerie started working at Total in 1974, and was appointed its chief executive in 2007.
