Turkish operations in northern Syria directed only against terrorism - editor-in-chief
Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 15
By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:
The military operations by the Turkish Armed Forces in northern Syria have no other purpose than the elimination of terrorists, who are a real threat to the region, editor-in-chief of Turkey's Bolgepostasi newspaper, columnist for the Milat newspaper Ufuk Coskun told Trend Oct. 15.
Coskun added that PKK, PYD/YPG terrorist groups are a threat not only to Turkey, but also to neighboring countries.
Despite that Turkey’s goal is only to eliminate the sources of terrorism, the EU, the Arab League, as well as several countries including Israel, evaluate the Operation Peace Spring as occupation, the editor-in-chief noted.
The expert said that the NATO member countries show the most absurd position regarding the Operation Peace Spring.
“NATO countries, instead of supporting their ally Turkey, condemn this operation, thereby expressing indirect solidarity with the PKK, PYD/YPG,” Coskun added.
On Oct. 9, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the beginning of a new military operation in Syria, called "Peace Spring".
The president stressed that Turkey will completely destroy the hotbeds of terrorism in northern Syria.
On Oct. 7, Erdogan said that in anticipation of the beginning of new military operations by the Turkish Armed Forces in northern Syria, the US servicemen began to leave the region.
On Oct. 1, Erdogan noted that Turkey will have to create the safety zone in northern Syria alone.
