Cargo shipments via Turkish Trabzon airport down over eight months

As many as 11,371 tons of cargo were transported through Turkey’s Trabzon Airport from January through August 2020, declining by 56 percent compared to the same period of 2019, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend on Sept.11.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, the country’s domestic flights transported 10,282 tons of cargo, showing a 48-percent drop over the year.

At the same time, 1,089 tons of cargo were transported through Trabzon Airport by international flights, having plunged by 82 percent year-on-year, the ministry said.

The Trabzon Airport served slightly over 1.1 million passengers during the seven months of this year, which is 55 percent less than in the same period of last year.

Some 1.1 million passengers were served on domestic flights over the reporting period, while a year earlier this indicator was 50 percent more.

In the past eight months of 2020, 43,626 passengers were served on international flights, down 87 percent compared to the same months of last year.

Meanwhile, 17,039 flights were carried out through Trabzon Airport, which is 37 percent less than in the same period of 2019.

From January through August 2020, 15,211 flights were carried out on domestic flights, which is 33 percent less than in the same period of last year.

International flights via Trabzon Airport dropped by 59 percent over the year, amounting to 1,828 flights.

From January through August 2020, air traffic in Turkey decreased by 48.9 percent and amounted to 532,458 flights. Meanwhile, over 52.2 million passengers were served at all Turkish airports.

During the reporting period, more than 1.4 million tons of cargo were transported through all airports in the country.
