Turkey publishes latest info on passenger, cargo traffic via new Istanbul airport

The new airport in Istanbul served over 16.4 million passengers from January through July 2021, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

During the specified period, 4.81 million passengers were served on domestic flights, and 11.5 million passengers on international flights, the ministry added.

The Turkish ministry also noted that during this period, 132,138 flights were carried out through the new Istanbul airport, including 37,582 - on domestic lines, 94,556 - on international lines.

“In the first 7 months of this year, the volume of cargo transported through the new Istanbul airport amounted to 715,024 tons, of which 64,960 tons accounted for domestic traffic, and 650,065 tons for international traffic,” the ministry said.

On October 29, 2018, the opening ceremony of the new airport was held in Istanbul, in which the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan took part.

Istanbul's third airport is located in the northern part of the city.
