Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus carry out anti-terrorist exercises

Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus start joint anti-terrorist exercises Zhetisu Anti-Terror 2014 Aug. 14, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the CIS Antiterrorism Center.

Within the exercises which will be carried out in Kazakhstan the soldiers of the three countries will have to free the civilians captured by "militants".

The first phase of the exercise will be held on August 14- 22.

The special division of Belarusian State Security Agency, Kazakh National Security Committee, Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Russian Federal Security Service, Defense Ministry and National Atomic Corporation Rosatom will take part in the exercises.

The representatives of the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee, Interpol, OSCE, Regional Antiterrorist Structure of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Collective Security Treaty Organization were invited to attend the exercises as observers.

The second stage of the exercise will kick off on Sept. 9 in Kazakh city of Almaty.

Zhetisu Anti-Terror 2014 is the third joint anti-terrorist exercises organized by the CIS Antiterrorism Center in Kazakhstan. Previous exercises conducted by the center in Kazakhstan were Caspian Anti-Terror exercises in 2005 and Baikonur Anti-Terror in 2007.
