Internet users in Uzbekistan increase by 21 percent

The number of Internet users in Uzbekistan has increased by 21.3 percent in January-March 2012 compared to the same period last year to 9.1 million, the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information (UzACI) said on Monday.

The number of Internet users in Uzbekistan has increased by 21.3 percent in January-March 2012 compared to the same period last year to 9.1 million, the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information (UzACI) said on Monday.

According to the agency, the number of users connecting to the network via the communication line has increased by 14.6 percent and amounted to 3.85 million by April, 2012, the number of mobile Internet users increased by 24.2 percent - to 5.2 million.

The number of businesses that provide data transmission services, including Internet connection, reached 936 (903 - the same date in 2011) at the end of the first quarter, the total number of points of collective use - 1050 (968).

The overall speed (bandwidth) of access to international data networks reached 5, 145 thousand Mbit / s at the end of March compared to 4.850 thousand Mbit / s at the beginning of the year (an increase of 6.1 per cent).

The level of digitalization of exchanges reached 97.1 percent compared to 93.7 percent in January-March last year.

There were more than 14,000 domain names in the national domain zone UZ at the beginning of April.

The number of keys and certificates of keys of digital signature issued exceed 230.2 thousand compared to 163.5 thousand the previous year (an increase of 40.8 per cent).

According to UzACI, there were more than 8.827 million Internet users at the end of 2011, the number of mobile subscribers was more than 25.4 million.
