The commander of U.S. Marines in Europe, Lieutenant General John Paxton met with the chief of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Lieutenant-General Devi Chankotadze, during his official visit to Tbilisi on Friday.

During the meeting the parties discussed the prospects for deepening the Georgian-American cooperation in the military sphere, told Trend from Georgian Defense Ministry.

According to the statement of Davy Chankotadze, Georgia will continue its military cooperation with the United States at the same rate as the U.S. perform a significant role in the modernization of the armed forces of Georgia and the process of alignment with NATO.

The generals of the two countries also discussed the situation in the region and Georgia's participation in the ISAF program. Joint Chiefs of Staff expressed their willingness to continue participation in ISAF.

During the visit, John Paxton also met with the commander of the Fourth Infantry Brigade and the leadership of the National Defence Academy of Georgia.
