The Azerbaijani and Armenian delegations met in Strasbourg as part of the PACE summer session Tuesday, Azerbaijani Delegation to PACE head Samad Seyidov told journalists today.

The meeting was attended by Seyidov and Azerbaijani delegation member Sabir Hajiyev, and held upon the iniative of PACE President Movlud Cavusoglu. Head of the Armenian Delegation to PACE David Harutunyan and his deputy Armen Rustamyan also attended the meeting, as did PACE Secretary General Matthias Sorinas.

Seyidov said the parties have jointly agreed to further continue holding such meetings.

"The Azerbaijani delegation noted the importance of resuming the active work of the PACE subcommittee," Seyidov said. "But, unfortunately, the Armenian side refuses to cooperate at this level, including the subcommittee. Despite this, thanks to our efforts, it was decided to continue our interaction, negotiations and exchanges at this level. The Armenian side has, though, recognized the need to continue such interaction. The format of the meetings expands from session to session and we plan to hold similar meetings in a broader format at the next session."

Seyidov added that the Armenians have claimed that the PACE subcommittee does not suit their interestes, while Azerbaijan considers the subcommittee vital to resolve the Karabakh conflict.
