Azerbaijan, Baku, 29 March / Trend corr E. Huseynli/ In January-March 2008, the number of traffic accident victims in Baku dropped by 36%, Vagif Asadov, the department head of the State Road Police Administration told Trend on 29 March.
As a result of the traffic accidents which took place in Baku during first three months of 2007, 83 people died and 329 sustained injuries.
According to Asadov, 240 accidents had been registered in Baku by the end of March 2008, as a result of which 53 people died and 266 sustained injuries. Most of the accidents were caused by exceeding speed regulations.
By the beginning of March 105,943 drivers were fined for violation of road regulations (4,420 for excessive speed).
