Georgia, Tbilisi, 28 August / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / On 1 September, the world population will form a human shield to support Georgia. Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia said at the public worship in honor of Maria Virgin Assumption that day the world population would support Georgia.
Patriarch called on Georgians to join the human shield. "I bless to take part in the action," Ilia II said.
At the night of 8 August, large-scale military operations were launched in the self-declared South Ossetia republic. The Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali. Later the Russian troops entered the city and drove the Georgian forces back to the Georgian territory.
On 12 August, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he has decided to end operations to compel Georgia to peace.
Russian peacekeepers and international supervisors remain in the Georgian territory.
