Turkey Is Close Ally of US: US Secretary of State

Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 September / Trend corr. M.Ibrahimov / Turkey is one of close allies of the United States.

Turkey is one of close allies of the United States in solution of most of problems happening in the region, including settlement of conflicts in South Caucasus, Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State, stated at a meeting with Ali Babacan, the Turkish Foreign Minister, during the 63rd United Nations (UN) General Assembly, CNN Turk reported.

"Turkey is a country, which has an important role in establishment of peace in Caucasus," Rice said.  The meeting between Rice and Babacan at the Woldorf Astoria hotel focused on the latest developments in Caucasus and the Caucasus Stability and Co-operation Format.

Turkey attaches great importance to territorial integrity and independence of Georgia and Turkish president Abdullah Gul's Armenia visit will enable to normalize the Turkish-Armenian relations and influence positively on settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Babacan said at the meeting.

The United States supported the Caucasus Stability and Co-operation Platform of Turkey, Rice said at the meeting.
